Data were collected through the disease surveillance system.Results: The highest prevalence of dysentery was observed in counties such as Sarbisheh, Zirkooh, Darmiyan, and Nehbandan. Men accounted for the majority of cases (n = 639, 54.1%), while children under the age of 6 accounted for 30.6% of all cases. Shigella species were responsible for 48.2% of all cases of dysentery.Conclusion: Shigella and E. coli were the most common causative agents of dysentery in South Khorasan Province, Iran.
